How much does it cost to have my building moved?
How much does it cost to raise my building and set down onto a new foundation?
How much should I expect to pay, from start to finish?
Every project is asessed on an individual basis, and prices are subject to change on a variety of aspects. Size of the structure, estimated weight of the structure, complexity of the project, site conditions and access points play a mojor role in our price. Generally the distance of the move does not affect the price because cost comes from the equipment used to load and unload the structure from the foundation. If your looking to get a ballpark estimate, take several pictures of the building and email them to us. We can give you a rough estimate over the phone. From there we can schedual an on site estimate and prepare a final price.
What permits should I obtain?
How do I go about getting these?
Im in the F.E.M.A flood zone, Does this require special permits?
Start off by going to your local town building department with your ideas and plans. After you are insured that everything you want to do is legal and economical to you, you should go ahead and hire an architect. Have your architect draw up a set of plans which will simplify everything that needs to be done. Your architect will design your plans according to all laws and regulations of your local town building department and F.E.M.A if necessary From there, the plans will have to be approved by the town building department. Once approved, you can begin your project.
Where do I go from there?
Will my landscaping need to be removed?
What about my fireplace/woodstove/chiminey, can they be moved also?
An on site visit by a Dawn representative will lead you in the right direction. Depending on the project, landscaping from around the entire perimeter of the structure may have to be removed, or as little as one side. By your request, we can work around valuable or otherwise important landscaping or any other obsticules, granted it will not interfere with the safety of the move.
During the on-site visit, we will determine if it is feasible to save your fireplace/chiminey. Often times it is, as long as they are in good shape.
How does Dawn lift the house off of the foundation?
Is any of the foundation re-usable?
Every structure has vital support points which keeps the buildings secure, such as main girders, sill plates, headers etc. Once engaged in a moving project, We will build a temporary "foundation" out of structural steel. This grid of steel is put into position where it will be able to support the vital support areas as mentioned above. We can then safely lift the house off of the original foundation.
Saving parts of an old foundation has been done, but you should hire an engineer to determine if it is safe to do so.
